Mary Hunter’s Message:
Thank you for vising our fundraising page!
In February my daughter Abby was born 10 weeks early and spent the first 8 weeks of her life in the Neonatal unit at the Nottingham Queens Medical Centre. Abby was not only premature, but she also needed surgery on her tummy to remove a blockage and connect her intestines. You can imagine that this was a very traumatic time for my husband Andy and I. The doctors and nurses did a fantastic job of not only caring for Abby but also supporting us too!
Abby is now home and doing very well. She's still a tiny baby and will take time to catch-up with her growth but she will now be able to lead a normal life.
Today 1 in 8 babies born in the UK are taken to a neonatal special baby unit for care. An amazingly high statistic for our future children and yet charities to support sick babies are not very well known.
As a thank-you to the hospital who saved our baby girl Abby and in remembrance of her twin sister Ellie who was stillborn, I have organised an event to raise money to buy a new advanced incubator that will help future sick babies in their recovery process.
The Columbus Charity Challenge is a 25KM run or cycle at Holme Pierrepont Nottingham. With the support of our family, friends and my team at Columbus IT there are over 30 of us who are all raising money as part of the Columbus Charity Challenge event. Some friends have created individual web pages as they are either supporting us through different activities or they need the seperate site to maximise their sponsorship via their companies co- funded sponsorship schemes. All those taking part who you can sponsor from this page are listed below:
