Compass Team completes London Marathon!!

So, was the team too old? Too short? Too fat? Never!

On 17th April the Compass Team successfully completed their challenge to run the 2011 London Marathon on behalf of NCYPE. Faced with soaring temperatures, Peter Gray, Malcolm McGregor, Steve Love and Amber Galbraith were able to keep their cool and complete the gruelling 26.2 miles – starting at Greenwich, and finishing on Pall Mall. Peter completed it in 4 hours 15 minutes – only one minute 30 seconds slower than his time last year. Malcolm followed shortly after, in 4 hours 35 minutes. Amber and Steve brought up the rear in 5 hours 14 minutes and 5 hours 28 minutes respectively.

The team were running on behalf of NCYPE, which is the UK's major provider of specialist services for children and young people with epilepsy and other neurological conditions. Donations are still very gratefully received.  Peter Gray ran the London Marathon with his eldest daughter, Ishbel. Ishbel was diagnosed with epilepsy at 18 but, very fortunately, now has the condition successfully controlled by medication. Their aim was to raise money for youngsters suffering from epilepsy, and so they ran on behalf of the National Centre for Young People with Epilepsy "NCYPE". They raised an incredible £12500.00. However, not satisfied with this achievement, Peter has decided to do it all again! And after plying Compass colleagues with plenty of wine at a pre-Christmas drinks do, three of us finally agreed to join him on 17th April: Malcolm McGregor, Steve Love and Amber Galbraith.

NCYPE is the UK's major provider of specialist services for children and young people with epilepsy and other neurological conditions, providing both residential and day services for children and young people aged 5 to 25. The NCYPE concentrates on the needs of those most severely affected by epilepsy in the UK with the aim of securing better futures for these children and young people.

Based in Lingfield, Surrey the Centre provides a UK centre of excellence in the education, care and treatment of young epilepsy sufferers. In addition, as a practical solution for parents whose children need to access respite care during school holidays, the residential children's homes provided by NCYPE ensure stability and continuity of care for children throughout the year. The NCYPE offers diagnosis, assessment, treatment, research and rehabilitation services, together with training for professionals with an interest in epilepsy and a research programme led by the Prince of Wales's Chair in Childhood Epilepsy.

As for the team: Too old? Too short? Too fat? Perhaps - but we have taken on this challenge because NCYPE is a truly inspirational charity. We have set a team target of £15,000.00 to raise for this richly deserving cause. We very much hope that you will feel able to sponsor us in our efforts to raise funds on its behalf.Compass Members to run London Marathon: Sponsorship request
