Why #CoolCapSelfie?
Warwick is hard at work fighting cancer: we're coming up with better ways to diagnose and treat cancer, and we're also finding ways to improve patient care.
On Wednesday 9th March we're celebrating the work of Professor Annie Young, who wants to run a clinical trial into 'cool caps' which help patients keep their hair during chemotherapy.
Hair loss is one of the most psychologically damaging side-effects of chemotherapy, and cool caps can help some patients to keep theirs. However, even though they've been around since the 1970s, they've never been subjected to a clinical trial. They're not perfect yet, and they're not offered everywhere.
We want to refine their use and reduce the amount of time they need to be worn, so they can be offered to all patients on the NHS.
£2 could make all the difference...
- £2 will pay for one session of scalp cooling
- £1,000 will pay for 506 scalp cooling sessions in a year
- £2,000 would help over a thousand patients access the machine
- £10,000 could buy a scalp cooling machine
- £80,000 would fund the whole clinical trial and help every patient across the UK in the future (so if you know any millionaires, please drop them a hint!)
Every penny goes to cancer research.
Warwick does not take administrative fees from donations. Every penny we receive, plus Gift Aid, goes straight to your chosen cause. (JustGiving does take a small proportion as a fee, so you can always donate directly on our website to fully maximize your gift.)
