As many of you will know, my dad was knocked over by a car just before Christmas last year. Thanks to the hard work and dedication of the staff at Trafford General he survived a terrible accident and is progressing towards a full recovery with their continued support. The list of departments and people who have helped my dad is extensive and includes the ambulance crews, A&E, the Intensive Care/High Dependency Unit, The Surgical Unit, The Orthopaedic Unit, Seymour Unit and the physio team. Throughout his 5 month stay at Trafford, staff were always friendly and helpful, and demonstrated what a fantastic hospital it really is.

 

As a result, I would like to give something back for all their efforts and am planning to attempt the Three Peaks Challenge of climbing Snowdon, Ben Nevis and Scafell Pike within 24 hours starting on the 26th September (not the 18th as it says in the title). Tom and Blacky have very kindly offered to take up the challenge and going in a small group should ensure safety whilst also allowing us to push ourselves to the limit to complete the climbs to what seems a very tight schedule! To help us save energy between climbs, Pop has agreed to be our designated driver through the 24 hours which is very much appreciated.

We completed the challenge in 24 hours 45 minutes mainly due to problems in the dark descending Ben Nevis and ascending Scafell (where we were stuck on the edge of a large gorge for the best part of an hour!!). Without a doubt this was the toughest physical challenge any of us have ever done! A very satisfying challenge that we probably won't attempt in the near future, thanks to everybody who sponsored us!
