At 19.19 on Monday 16th July I crossed the finishing line in Loudenvielle just less than 12 hours after leaving Foix, and still smiling even after 196 km of mountain passes. Admittedly this was a bit outside my target time, and rather more than double Alexandre Vinokourov's time today (5 hrs 34 min). There must have been a few gaps in my training! As the film crews and media circus had gone home, my first stop was the beer tent.
