Story

After playing against the likes of Alan Shearer and Wayne Rooney with Norwich City Football Club I thought my tough challenges were over. However I am patron of 2 local charities and I want to show my support for their work by embarking on the toughest yet. I played for Norwich for 10 years and enjoyed making Norfolk my home.  I want to give something back and help the young people in the area and with your support we can impact many young people’s lives.

The Hike ‘n’ Bike Challenge will see me complete over 230 miles around Norfolk and north Suffolk 14th-20th May. This week-long marathon will take me north, south, east and west to raise money and I plan to visit schools and companies on the way who are supporting me.

You will be able to keep up with my progress listening to Radio Broadland with live reports in the Breakfast and Drive time shows and  a dedicated website will carry video footage and a daily diary.  I will be joined on route by local celebrities and Canary team-mates.

One person donating on this site will be drawn at random to receive a meal for two at Adlards Restaurant in Norwich with myself and good friend Darren Huckerby.  to enter you must tick the box that allows us to contact you by email.  Full details on www.radiobroadland.co.uk

After the event  donations will be split 50/50 between RadioBroadlandKidz and The Matthew Project

The Matthew Project provides information about the risks of drugs and alcohol to young people across Norfolk helping them to make safer life choices. One to one support and outreach is given to vulnerable and hurt young people.

Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: RadioBroadlandKidz will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.

I would like to thank Pedal Revolution in Norwich for donating a bike and give a special thanks to Mattressman, main weekday sponsor of the event.

BIG Thank You also to  Vauxhall Holiday Park and ISL Dardan Security and to  Chapelfield for hosting the finish on Sunday 20th May

About the charity

‘Have a Heart’ is the new name for Radio Broadland Kids. Only the name has changed, the charity will continue to fundraise and award grants to make life better for children and young people in Norfolk and north Suffolk. In the future we may also support local groups and charities that help other areas of Education and Community support, Health and Environment although the majority of our work will always focus on local children. ‘Have a Heart ‘ takes its patrons, Myleene Klass, Craig Fleming and Richard Hughes into the new remit and also will continue to work with our local Grants Advisory Board to ensure monies raised locally are spent locally.
