Story
The staff of Baslow St Anne's CofE Primary School are incredibly committed and inspiring. But like all schools, they are constrained by funding. I am raising money to provide the children with an outdoor activity centre (seating, soft play/activity area, cooking area, sandpit, chicken coop) to energise the children between lessons.
For my part, I am doing a year-long triathlon challenge: swimming, running and cycling 1km for every hour of the year. That's 8,760km: around 200km of swimming (the equivalent of Baslow to Newcastle, as the crow flies), 1,000km of running (Land's End to John O'Groats) and 7,560km of cycling (Baslow to Goa in India).
To give me something to aim for, I’ll also be competing in a Swimathon (the 10k Great North Swim), some cycling sportives (the Midlands Monster, the Peaks Tour Epic and the Matlock Top 10) and a couple of runs (the Sheffield Half Marathon and the Chatsworth 10k); bringing the three disciplines of triathlon together with a half ironman (the Ultimate half) and two full Ironman competitions (the Outlaw and the JurassicMan); so long as I can avoid injury.
I have a blog describing my progress (training and competitions) here .

5 years agoChallenge Complete: I guess it's a slightly odd way to celebrate your birthday, but I'm delighted to say that I completed my challenge this morning - yup, 8761km completed this year - with a family park run. Phew! Thanks soooo much to all of you that have sponsored me and for your kind words of encouragement. Through the JustGiving page and directly sponsorship, we've raised a total of just over £2,100 for Baslow School. I'm sure this will go a long way to providing some really fun activities for the schoolchildren. Thank you!

6 years agoOf the 8,760km that I've committed to swim, cycle and run this year, I had planned to complete 7,660km by the end of October. After a pretty intense two months, to make up for a lazy August when we were on holiday, I'm delighted to say that at the end of October I'd completed 7,647km. I'm now pretty much on target. I'm going to nail this thing, come what may! Thanks so much to everyone that's supported me so far, you've really kept me going, when sometimes I'd rather have stayed in bed, or taken the bus to work, or just gone to the pub ;-) !
