    Story

David Riley passed away in Belfast on the 15th September, 2018; having spent the last year of his life completing the MA in Poetry at Queen's University. He had just submitted his final piece of work, having attended every lecture and event during his time there.

I have set up this page to raise money for a memorial bench at Stanley Park in Blackpool. I have chosen this location because it was a place he loved. He went there as a boy with his Pop; when I was a child he took me there every Sunday; before his move to Belfast he walked around there almost every day, and watched his granddaughters play there.

At a later date I will be organising a celebration of David's life at Stanley Park. I will be inviting people to attend. People are welcome to contribute any poems or stories they'd like reading at the event, even if they can't be there in person. Please feel free to get in touch if you'd like to submit something now, or if you'd like to be invited to the event. My email address is emilyrileygarvin@outlook.com

Hello, I just want to thank everyone again for your contributions. I'm very pleased to say the bench is now in place - it's right by the clock tower. I plan to organise a gathering in the park - to celebrate my dad's life - later in the year. I'll update this page when I have further details. Many, many thanks to everyone, Emily

It was a pleasure discussing poetry with David over the course of the year he spent with us on the MA in Poetry. A gentle, kind and funny man - he will be missed.

It was a pleasure and a privilege to get to know David Riley, even if briefly, during the MA in Poetry at Queens 2017-2018. My deepest sympathy to David's family & friends.
