Seumas was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes at the tender age of 13 months old. Seumas lives with his Diabetes every single hour of every single day of every month - it's 365 days a year with no breaks or holidays. He uses an insulin pump and has the opportunity to use a new piece of kit, the Dexcom G5 CGM. This piece of kit will allow us to see patterns in Seumas's blood sugar levels and make changes to his insulin doses to keep him in a tighter target range.

Having this this piece of kit, allowing us to keep his blood sugars tighter will ultimately reduce the risk of any potential Type 1 related health problems.

With the Dexcom, we have the power to know Seumas's blood sugar and whether it is rising or falling fast and no finger pricks needed. Before this piece of kit became available, we were picking Seumas's fingers up to 15 times a day sometimes. This has since reduced to twice daily to calibrate the Dexcom.

We can act before a hypo happens, reducing his risk of becoming hypoglycaemic and also give additional insulin with confidence if he is rising quickly.

Overnight meant a 3am alarm to check his finger. With the Dexcom, it has alarms which alert us to potential high or low.

Glen Haley has kindly run 100 miles to raise money for this amazing piece of kit which in turn will help Seumas in the long run. As he grows it will help him take control and manage his own Diabetes safely and with confidence.
