Solly Cup 2017! The fifth annual Solly Cup celebration will be held after the Millfields School Summer Fair, at 4.30 on Saturday 8th July, between teams representing Millfields and Rushmore schools. The game will be held on the Millfields Park pitch, close to Fletching Road. For anyone who doesn’t know the background, this game is held annually in the memory of Solly Vesamia, father of three Millfields pupils and a keen footballer, who sadly died of a rare disease in 2013. At the request of Solly’s widow Sham who runs A&S Cycles in Chatsworth Road, we’ll be raising funds again this year for the Nawaal Foundation, who support a number of good causes working in Hackney. This year two charities have been selected – the Rainbow Trust https://rainbowtrust.org.uk/about/what-we-do which provides support for young people with terminal disease, and the Hackney Pirates http://www.hackneypirates.org/our-story/ who work to improve the literacy, confidence and perseverance of children aged between 9 and 12 in Hackney.
