    Story

Rockliffe Hall’s Chief Executive, Eamonn Elliott, is taking on The Howard triathlon at Castle Howard on Sunday 21st July, to raise funds for the family of a former colleague, Laura Cafferty, who died in March.

In 2017, at the age of just 34, doctors found a cancerous tumour on Laura’s leg and she was later diagnosed with a form of cancer called Leiomyosarcoma. Laura travelled from her home on Jersey to Southampton for intensive chemotherapy but sadly the treatment didn’t work and the cancer spread to her pelvis and back. Laura died on 25th March 2019, leaving her husband Karl, and their daughter, Maya.

Eamonn has set up a crowdfunding page to raise funds for Karl and Maya to help support them at this difficult time in their lives.

The Castle Howard triathlon will involve a 1.5km swim of the Great Lake in front of the castle, followed by a 45km cycle which circumnavigates the 10,000 acre Howard estate passing through the nearby stunning Hovingham Estate and out into the Howardian Hills. The final leg of the competition is a 10km run taking in key landmarks and monuments, including Castle South Lake, The Atlas Fountain and Temple of the Four Winds.

Eamonn says: “Laura was a fabulous friend and it was a pleasure knowing her, and working with her. She was an incredibly strong woman. I want to try and raise as much money as possible by tackling The Gauntlet, to help Karl and Maya as they try to rebuild their lives.”
