Story

Since 1997 Comberton Village College has been involved in a cultural exchange with Edendale School, in South Africa. The school was set-up under Apartheid to provide good quality education for black students. Every year Comberton Village College is committed to providing bursaries for a student to attend Edendale. We have also raised funds to offer cultural activities for students from Edendale who are selected for the exchange. Edendale School has recently established its own orphanage on site and funds raised would help to support this project.

Two years ago, Comberton Village College gained a Sport and Language exchange partnership with Escola Secundaria Noroeste do 1, in Mozambique. The school is a mixed gender government school with over 6000 students which has very limited resources.

Monies raised this year will go towards ensuring the continuation of these valuable international partnerships now that the British Council project funding has ceased, and to buying equipment and resources for our partner schools.

Following the success of last year’s Sponsored Walk, we are planning to repeat the event on Friday 24 September. We will be following the same four-mile circular route around the local area.

As the School Council we feel it is important that the student body takes an active role in supporting these exchanges and it is hoped that by organising such a large whole school event that we can raise all the necessary funds for each school. We are aiming to raise five thousand pounds. In order to achieve this goal we suggest that each family makes a donation of five pounds. This will enable students to come to school in their own clothes and to take part in the walk. Of course, any additional donations will be gratefully received. Students can bring cash/cheque donations into school from Tuesday 21 September until the day of the walk.

Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to make donations: The CVC Trust Fund receives your money immediately and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.

The final total from all sources will be published on the school website.

Thank you for your support - and please feel free to leave our walkers an inspirational message!
