Story

Thanks for visiting my fundraising page.

I recently turned 50.  Really.  No really. I did.  Amazing isn't it.

To celebrate this momentous achievement, on Saturday 6th Sept, along with 6 others, I successfully completed the National 3 Peaks Challenge.

For full details and photos please go to: http://penhaligonspeaks.blogspot.com

We climbed Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon (the three highest Mountains in England, Scotland and Wales) in 23hours and 36minutes (just inside our limit of 24hours including driving).  This was unquestionably the hardest physical challenge of my 50 years and I really did feel pushed to the absolute limit.

The weather changed with each Mountain.  On Ben Nevis we experienced perfect conditions - clear skies and sunshine.  Scafell Pike at 3am after a 6 hour drive was truly horrible. Pitch black, rain, very high winds and extremely cold -especially at the top.  Snowden was rainy, cloudy and windy all the way.

We anticipate our final donations figure to be around £3,000 for Penhaligon's Friends  so your help is much appreciated.

Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Penhaligons Friends gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.

We covered general trip expenses ourselves - ALL donations go directly to Penhaligons Friends

If you'd like to sponsor me please do!

The following stats are only for people wearing anoraks.  If you're a normal person please donate and look away now.

Height     Est. Ascent Time    Est. Descent TIme

Ben Nevis    1,344m     3hr         2hr

Scafell Pike    978m     2.30hr    1.30hr

Snowdon    1,085m     2.30hr     1.30hr

Allowing for ten hours of driving time between Mountains we had a maximum of 14 hours to complete the climbs which covered a total distance of just short of 30 miles.

We all trained as hard as we could and we needed to.  Despite much preparation I experienced a knee injury as did Nik and everyone was pushed to the limit.

Penhaligons is a brilliant charity doing great work and your donation will be greatly appreciated.
