Disasters Emergency Committee is unique in that the member agencies are the leading UK registered humanitarian charities. DEC members have the profile to ensure successful national appeals and expertise in the delivery and provision of aid. Members' performance and any new applicants are reviewed every two years.
DEC member agencies are signatories to the Code of Conduct for the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement and NGOs in Disaster Relief. They have a demonstrable commitment to the principles enshrined in the humanitarian charter to achieve Sphere and People in Aid standards, plus a willingness to be evaluated against them. The 13 member agencies are: ActionAid, British Red Cross, CAFOD, Care International, Christian Aid, Concern, Help the Aged, Islamic Relief, Merlin, Oxfam, Save the Children, Tearfund, World Vision
