Thanks for visiting my fundraising page for the Walk For Skin 2009, organised by the British Skin Foundation. Money raised from this sponsored walk will be used towards research into skin disease, with 50% of it being given to my chosen specific charity - the Vitiligo Society.
I have been a sufferer of Vitiligo since the age of 5 and it has affected my life greatly on an everyday basis. Even though this condition is not life-threatening, the psychological and emotional aspects of having such a visibly challenging condition can be quite devastating. This walk is somewhat of a personal achievement for me in terms of spreading awareness to you, my friends and family, as well as to those back in my homeland of Trinidad & Tobago, and anywhere else where people may not know about or understand such a condition.
Vitiligo affects the produce of melanin in the body, meaning that pigmentation is lost and the skin eventually turns white. I am lucky enough in that my entire body has turned white, however for others, they may not be as fortunate and may have patches of different colour on their skin. I too went through this and it is quite traumatic, especially at a young age.
Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: The Vitiligo Society gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.
So please sponsor me now and help me to raise awareness for this and other skin conditions and help those in need of knowing how to deal with such a life-changing ordeal. I was lucky enough to have two wonderful parents who guided me and never let vitiligo get me down, I would love through this opportunity to do the same for just even one other person.
Thank you always for your love and support!
