I'm a lucky man, managing to scrape the last club place in the 2010 Virgin London Marathon. It was the faint possibility of one day running London that got me into this running in the first place. I've come a long way since then, and now, instead of my initial aim of getting round London, I've got a time in mind, and a challenging one at that.

Still, London's all about giving something back, and as I've just become a father for the first time, that's what I intend doing! The big international charities get dozens of places and hundreds of runners running for them, while the little local ones depend on the kindness of locals to help them raise funds for them

I'm running this time for the Children's Section of St. Andrew's Hospice in Grimsby. They take care of children and young people under 25 from all over Lincolnshire and the East Riding, making their final days as fulfilled as possible or giving them help to get the most from life, despite the disorders that limit them. Not only that, but they provide essential help to their parents and carers, giving them a chance to take a break for a few hours from what must be a very difficult task for them.

The Hospice depends on the kindness of donors and fundraisers to basically ensure that they can keep their doors open. I hope to be able to give them a little more help to brighten the lives of the unfortunate children and young people who depend on them.
