Machu Picchu, Andes, 2006

I am travelling to the Andes of South America in late 2006, and will be attempting the 4-day trek to Machu Picchu, involving all manner of hazards, not least ascending to over 15,000 feet (that's around 5 Mount Snowdons on top of eachother if you need help imagining it)... so the air will be pretty thin

I'm going anyhow, as a self-financed trip, and I will be taking part in some community projects while out there, but I felt that the MP trek should not just be an experience, it should, as a visit to one amazing but dead civilisation, be a chance to raise money for ones that are struggling- my nominated charity is Survival International, and please go here to see what they are about:   http://www.survival-international.org/  if the Bushmen Appeal on that site remotely moves you, then you'll understand why I've made this page.

SI are not funding me in any way , all the money I raise goes to them, and there is no minimum sum I have to raise, and in theory no maximum- I am aiming for a grand, but more would be superb.

Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Survival International will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you. If you are not a taxpayer, or not in the UK  there is a small admin fee that gets taken off your money before SI get it, so in that case it may be more sensible for you to donate direct to SI, and please let me know
