What am I doing?
Tough Guy - 31st Jan 2010
When people ask me what tough guy is, I can only answer with "it's a kind of death race in freezing temperatures". The truth is I don't really know what to expect but here are some snippets of information about the event.
- Tough Guy is coined as the worlds safest, most dangerous taste of mental and physical pain, fear and endurance.
- It features sub-zero lakes, fire walks and electric prods
- It starts with an 8 country-mile cross country run
- There are 26 stages in total
- 5,000+ started the race in 2009, with under 3,000 finishing
- I've signed a death warrant disclaimer in order to compete
Why am I doing it?
I'm putting myself through this with my good friends Matthew Speak and Greg Spanner for two reasons. Firstly in memory of a friend of mine who died tragically earlier in 2009. Mick Barrs completed tough guy in 2008 and was a true legend who I wish i'd seen more of. RIP Mikeo.
Secondly to raise funds for the charity Leukaemia Research. There are many forms Leukaemia and many blood ilnesses that lead to leukamia, some of which are are extermely rare that doctors know little about.
Leukaemia Research is the only charity in the dedicated exclusively to researching blood cancers and disorders.
They need to raise more than £100 million over the next five years to sustain investment. They receive no Government grants and their life-saving research depends entirely on voluntary donations.
For every pound raised first direct will match it, so please give kindly and help me reach my goal!
Am I ready?
