Story
When we returned from our Tanzania charity cycle ride last October and were considering another cycling challenge jeremy noticed the article in the Daily Telegraph launching the Deloitte Ride Across Britain (http://www.rideacrossbritain.com/). This challenge, which starts on 12 June 2010, involves a 1,000-mile mass cycle down the length of Great Britain, from John O'Groats to Land's End, with 650 cyclists covering more than 110 miles per day. We have both been training hard for the last six months, but unfortunately an untimely prolapsed disc has ruled Jeremy out of the ride and he has had to defer until next year .
Jeremy and I are both members of Hankley Common Golf Club and each year the Captain nominates a charity he raises money for during his year of office. We thought that as the ride starts on Captain's Day, we would offer to raise money for his charity, Cardiac Risk in the Young, in conjunction with the ride.
CRY was founded in 1995 to raise awareness of conditions that can lead to Sudden Cardiac Death (SCD); Sudden Death Syndrome (SDS, SADS). Bereaved families from across the Home Counties and South of England are helping to launch a major regional campaign to highlight the shocking statistic showing that the number of young people who lose their lives to the tragic condition sudden cardiac death now stands at 12 every week – a staggering 50% rise on previous estimates.
We understand that people get many requests to support charities these days but we hope you will help us to raise money for this worthy cause. We have paid for the full cost of the ride so all the money you donate will go to CRY.
With many thanks
Jeremy and David
