Story

Update 5/4/2009
I am really sorry to to be posting this message, but as you know, on the 26th of this month, I had planned to run Flora London Marathon and had chosen to run for Help for Heroes.

Unfortunately I have been suffering with an injury to my achilles tendon which is causing problems into my calf.  I have been having treatment on it but I have now been advised not to run such a long distance until it is fully healed. Things had started to improve but then I caught one of these virus's that have been doing the rounds, which knocked my training for six.  The marathon place that I have is a ballot place so I am able to defer to next year and complete it then, just think it would be a bit daft to go against the advice and try and double the distance I am running now by the end of the month and cause further injuries.

I am very disappointed, and was looking forward to raising money for a great charity too, now I feel like I've let them down and all the people that sponsored me, one of which was you.

I am posting this here today to explain.  You donated to Help for Heroes which supports our wounded soldiers and provides practical direct support to those servicemen and women wounded in the line of duty in the current conficts, some of which are coming home maimed and injured with no facilities back here to help them.

The donation was made direct to Help for Heroes at the time that you made it and isn't refundable by them, but I am happy to pay your donation back out of my own pocket if you would like. I appreciate that most people wanted to donate to the charity anyhow, but I don't want people to think i've misled them in anyway when they were kind enough to support me running.

For those of you who are happy with the donation you have made, I am actually doing two events for Help for Heroes and the other one still stands, it is the Bupa Great North Open Water Swim at Windermere at the beginning of September, so in effect, the donation would be for the swim instead of the run.

Please let me know what you would like me to do.

Regards

Dave

Thanks for visiting my fundraising page.

As an ex serviceman having served over 16 years in the finest cavalry regiment in the British Army 14th/20th Kings Hussars I would like to be able to give something back to those that are serving now by raising a little cash so that they might be able to recover from their physical and mental injuries in comfort and in soroundings that they may be familier with.

That is why having got a place in the Flora London Marathon I have decided to run for Help the Hereos

It breaks my heart to see Servicemen and Servicewomen come back home injured physically or mentally and being forgotten about.

HELP FOR HEROES has been quite high profile recently with the single that made Number one with the X Factor finalists and here's my chance to do a tiny bit to show that I care too.  Hope you'll join in and help me raise my total.

I know that things aren't easy with the Credit Crunch, but at least we aren't injured like these people who need that little bit extra help.

Thankyou
