Story

Thanks for visiting my fundraising page.

Suzanne and myself will be doing a Tandem Skyjump, safely harnessed to the instructor, from around 10000 feet (2 miles) near Brigg in N Lincolnshire.

The first 5000 feet is freefall and will reach a speed of 120 mph.

There is currently no cure for MS so all contributions may advance that day when a cure can be found, as well as helping people already suffering MS.

Please sponsor me.

One small step for mankind, one giant leap for Dave Oddy!

UPDATE  28/6/09

Due to persistent cloud, all jumps were cancelled at Brigg on 27th June. We have booked a new date for 22 August - the day after my birthday! Thanks to everyone who has sponsored us. The delay has enabled us to look for more sponsors and raise even more money for the  MS Trust.

UPDATE 22/8/09

The Eagle has finally landed!

It was a lovely sunny day and a great experience, although I would gladly miss the first 5 seconds of being dangled over the door of the plane at 14000 feet and told not to look down - only to look down on what seemed to be a screen on Google Earth of N. Lincolnshire far below me.

The noise and speed of travelling at 120 mph takes your breath away.  I can only describe it as standing on the edge of the railway platform as an express train at full speed whistles by you and not having a boiled sweet to stop my ears constantly popping.

When the parachute was finally pulled however it went completely quiet and you seemed to be stationary in the sky looking down on a patchwork of fields, roads and towns as far as the Humber estuary and beyond. It was a very serene and  an estatic feeling after the crash, bang, whallop of free-fall.

The instuctor (Wes) however decided to make it more adventurous by putting pulling on the chute to make us spin around first clockwise, then anticlockwise, etc. and passed control on to me to do the same thing. It was amazingly responsive and a slight tug on the lines spun you in a different direction.

The instructor landed us spot on the cross and that was it - all over, the best 6 minutes of my life with clothes on was the mutual agreement.

Thanks again to all those who sponsored Suzy and myself - approx £1500 between us, including gift aid.

Would I do it again.........................ere...???
