Story
This is now my fifth marathon and I thought it would be a good idea to raise some more money for a worthy cause and have chosen GOSH. As some of you know Sue Standring's daughter is currently undergoing a major operation. What you might not know is why this is happening. Daniella summed up what she thinks about the people at GOSH and why it needs all of our support, these are her thoughts on them.
'Great Ormond Street Hospital is great, and this is why.......
When I was two Great Ormond Street saved my life from meningitis. This disease left my legs growing at different speeds. Now, Great Ormond Street have come to my rescue again with an operation to fix my legs once and for all - by making them the same length!'
The only way to sort out her leg is to break it and insert pins into the bone. Then a Taylor Spatial frame has been attached to the leg and the bone stretched 7 cm over a period of 2 months. Once this stretching is complete the metal frame will remain fixed to the leg for approximately 7 months. Another operation will then take place to remove the frame and the leg will then be put into a conventional plaster cast. Once the plaster is removed, Daniella will be on crutches until full speed is resumed! If this operation had not taken place the difference in leg length would have meant that her hip would have become deformed and cause even greater pain and reduce her ability to walk.
Looking at the frame and the pain that she has been though makes a marathon look like a walk in the park!
So please sponsor me and GOSH for all the great work they do for all children that need their help. Thank you very much. David x
