Story
Thank you for visiting my fundraising page.
Thats it - I've done it!
On Thursday 7th May I along with 24 other participants met at London Heathrow to fly to Lusaka Zambia via Johannesburg South Africa.
It was a night flight & we finally arrived in Lusaka around lunchtime on Friday 8th
After a short lunch stop we were taken to the Transaid Project - ITC or Industrial Training Centre where he we were treated to a special look around conducted by Mr Levy Kamanga the Director of the project & his training staff
It was great to see where the money raised is being spent. By training drivers correctly the project hopes to reduce deaths on Africas roads which accounts for being the 3rd biggest killer - only HIV Aids & Malaria kill more people - unbelievable! We are all now up for the challenge ahead - except that a freak thunderstorm took out all the power & closed the road leading to our accomodation - Lusaka turned into a big traffic jam & some roads resembled the Zambezi river - A clear reminder of how again our monies will help
The next 5 days took us all across rural Zambia on & off road through undulating scenery. Oh how I will remember cycling on sand! This was a real challenge & my legs a bottom were feeling the "burn"
Meeting & talking with the local people across Zambia was a real treat.
"Astonishing" I was told by one young man as he described his thoughts on seeing 25 cyclists come past his village
We experienced the lack of facilities that we all take for granted. Riding in a local taxi that had no shock absorbers! But all taken in great spirit
On the 5th day we reached Livingstone where we completed our ride at Victoria Falls - stunning!
A big thank you to my fellow "Cycle Zambia" colleagues for being so friendly & supportative of each other
A further big thank you to all of you that have sponsored me. This has allowed us to raise a total of £80K so far which we hope will rise to £100K over the coming few weeks
Of course this would not have been possible without the huge support from Caron my lovely wife & our 4 wonderful children - thank you x
Thank you - Telefonica O2 UK, Bretts Transport, Tesco Stores, Belron International & John Lewis Partnership for all your sonsorship
Its still not too late to sponsor me - you can do so safely on line now
Thank you
