Story
Thank you for taking the time to visit my Windsurfing4CancerResearch (W4CR) JustGiving page because I am once again asking to be sponsored.
Although I am proud to be the founder of W4CR it has grown in stature with the help of the excellent trustees, and other supporters, so that we can say it is "a charity formed by windsurfers with the aims to promote awareness of all aspects of cancer amongst the windsurfing community and raise money for cancer research, education and support".
It does not seem 12 months ago when I was coming to the end of 7 months chemotherapy after the return of cancer in my lung. I was aiming to be back on the water, and in remission for quite a few years, and I raised a lot of sponsorship for the inaugural SunriseSunset 2009 event. Thank you to everbody who contributed.
I was not to know that within two months from the chemo finishing that the tumour was to come out of hibernation and nearly double in size, and give me new spots on my left lung. Although some radiotherapy alleviated some growth I was encountering numerous chest infections and high temperatures and it was late Autumn before appropriate drug trials through the Royal Marsden at Sutton were progressed.
I have kept positive throughout and my monthly blogs on the WWW.W4CR.org website have been averaging 400 hits.
Drug trials were suspended in January (so the cancer keeps growing) due to a deterioration of my cough caused by the tumour strangling an airway. I have had two Broncoscopy operations in the last 4 weeks and a stent has been fitted. Another "follow up" broncoscopy is scheduled for 4/6 weeks but I still intend to be taking part in this years SunriseSunset event on 2nd May and I will be at Hayling Island and on the water for Sunrise (0537hrs) .
