Raising money for The Guide Dogs for the Blind Association

The ability to get around is vital in order to live a full life yet thousands of blind and partially sighted people never leave home alone. Guide Dogs empowers visually impaired people to do that and relies totally on the support of the public to fund the guide dog service. We breed and train guide dogs which provide life changing mobility and there are currently 4,500 working guide dog partnerships in the UK. The full lifetime cost of a guide dog from birth to retirement is £48,500. We will not rest until blind and partially sighted people can enjoy the same freedom of movement as everyone else. On Saturday morning, 6th June, I intend to swim around theisland ofManhattan, New York City, in aid of Guide Dogs for the Blind. Starting from Battery Park at the southern tip of the island, the 28.5 mile route takes in the East, Harlem and Hudson rivers to complete a full circumnavigation ofManhattan.

The race - known as the Manhattan Island Marathon Swim - consists of a field 25 solo swimmers from all over the world, armed only with standard swimming paraphernalia - one swim suit, a pair of goggles and a hat.

I would be very grateful for any donations - 100% of monies will go the charity (all travel and expenses have been paid for by me personally).
