Story
FOUR days
THREE hundred miles
TWO wheels
but only ONE pair of legs!
On the 26th May 2010 I will be cycling 300 miles from London to Paris to raise money for charity. The 300 mile cycle takes place over 4 days starting with a 95 mile ‘warm-up’ from London to Dover and ending with a ‘Tour-de-France’ style ride up the Champs Elysees in Paris!
Between now and May, as well as attempting to shed a lot of pounds (lbs) and get fit, I am hoping that I can encourage you to shed a few charitable pounds (£s).......although dollars, euros, francs or whatever your currency is also fine by me!
My aim is to raise £2000 for ‘Alzheimer Scotland – Action on Dementia’. The charity provides a wide range of services for people with dementia and their carers. You can find out a lot more at www.alzscot.org.
As many will know, Alzheimer’s disease is the most common cause of dementia causing a gradual progressive decline in a person’s memory and other mental abilities. As 25 million people, or 42% of the UK population, are affected by dementia through knowing a close friend or family member with the condition it is something that will touch most of us at one point in our lives. Having seen the prolonged effect of dementia in my late father over a period of 4 years I have nothing but admiration for the carers who support people with this debilitating condition.
It’s time to get ‘on my bike’ and give something back.
Thanks for your support !
Derek.
