Story

Thanks to everyone for your encouragement, support and donations.  You'll be pleased to know that I finished in 4hr 26 mins which for a "first-timer" really isn't bad.  The weather was hot, hot, hot but the crowds and support were absolutely superb and helped us all along tremendously.  Also knowing that I had so many friends wishing me well and raising money for a tremendous charity just kept me going.

It's no too late to donate .....

My story - In early 2008 I suffered a momentary lapse of madness and entered on-line for the 2009 London Marathon, not expecting to be selected from tens of thousands who entered the public ballot.  However, having received my Acceptance Letter and spending the next hour cursing and asking "why me?", I relented, took on a positive approach and decided to seize the opportunity and raise money for a well deserved cause.

My NEW-DIVA Fund has been created in association with my local Newark Victim Support, hence "Newark - Diane's Victim Aid Fund" and any money raised will be spent on victims of crime within the designated Newark & Sherwood area.

Becoming a victim of crime is never a pleasant experience for anyone, especially if the victim is of low means, vulnerable or at risk from becoming a repeat victim.

The majority of crime that happens within my area is burglary, purse/handbag thefts, bogus callers and common assault. There are more serious incidents of robbery and sexual violence, but fortunately these are fewer in number.

With the aid of practical items such as personal attack alarms, burglar alarms, keypad locks, handbag alarms, we can easily prevent crime happening again to the same person, and any money raised will help purchase these small, but very effective items.

Some crimes are more complex requiring more expensive practical support such as high levels of security equipment - a recent arson attack left the victim with absolutely nothing after their home was burnt extensively.  Immediate requirements were provisions, food and warm clothing, but then reality set in after being moved to another home by the Council; there was no kettle to make a cup of tea, no pots or pans, cutlery, bedding, pillows, sheets, curtains, towels, toothbrush, soap ... the list was endless.  This is where the NEW-DIVA Fund can help!

These very costly dilemmas are the same if anyone is fleeing the home through domestic abuse, or serious harm. Any practical help can have a beneficial aim to aid the quality of life for victims of crime in the Newark area. It does not resolve the problems, but it can make a difference.

PLEASE give generously as it could easily be you, a family member/friend or me asking for support.  This is a worthy cause and often unheard of until you become a victim of crime.  Many volunteers and staff offer their time willingly and this fund will help provide the necessary items for the victims they are tirelessly helping.

Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Victim Support gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer,  Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.

So please sponsor me and thank you SO much for your support
