Story

Docfest was invented in the middle of winter over some beer. We all needed something to look forward to last summer.

To be honest, it was such a great evening that it was not a difficult decision to do it again this year. The only challenge being how to make it even better in 2010.

We started work early and thanks to John Otway who agreed to be our celebrity guest watch him perform on http://www.myspace.com/johnotway and we were off to a fantastic start.

Thanks for all the hard work from our team who include roadie and stage man Frank Byrne, light and sound man Clive Dobbs, security officer Lyndon Robinson, MC Dr Spin and raconteur Graham Shaw and everyone else who works so hard to get the evening ready.

Docfest 10 is a private invitation only party for our friends and neighbours. Children aged 11+ welcome.

Please bring with you everything you need to make your evening comfortable, including a picnic, drinks, chairs, tables, rugs, candelabras, brollies (hope not to use them!).

We ask that each guests makes a donation of £10 each to Chilterns MS Centre who do a great job and support two of our friends in the village. Last year we made almost £1000 for the charity including the gift aid, we hope to double it this year. (Please note that if there is terrible weather and we have to cancel the party, it will not be possible to refund your donation.)

We look forward to a brilliant evening - lets hope for good weather!

About the bands

John Otway

John Otway was born in Aylesbury, learned to play the violin at school and got an early taste of performing in the Aylesbury Youth Orchestra.

Otway got together with Wild Willy Barrett in the seventies and they had one big hit 'Really Free' which reached number 27 in the charts in 1977.

Otway and Barrett went their separate ways after a few years and Otway went on the road with many others including a band called The Europeans, Ollie Halsall, Attila The Stockbroker.

In the early nineties John met up with Richard Holgarth and, through Richard, the other members of The Big Band. Otway's first new album for many years, ' Premature Adulation' featuring the Big Band, was released in 1995.

In 1999 the BBC ran a poll to find the greatest lyrics of the millenium, and Otway was a surprise entry at number 7 with his song 'Beware of the Flowers'.

Goodbye Empire

Goodbye Empire are a five piece unit from the South East of England who play and write music of their own design. They write about heartbreak, love, youth, ambition, delusions and the basic reflections of what they see in the world that surrounds them.

Many influences are fused in their sound to form an indie, punk, rock sound with hint of 80/90s synth pop. They’re not hedging their bets, they’re dedicated to giving people what they want - a good time…with a party feel.  You can check out some of their music at www.goodbyeempire.com

Mursley Earmuffs

Inspired by the BBC programme “The Choir” the Earmuffs began life this January. With the honourable exception of one member, all of us live in Mursley and our simple aim is to enjoy singing together. We practice weekly under the direction of Fay Hayhurst, who tries hard to keep us in order, and we believe (or rather hope) that we will peak on the 19th June!

Docfest 10 will be our first public performance and we are delighted to support this event and help raise funds for MS.

Ivan and the Wolves

Ivan and the Wolves are a 3 piece power trio from London, who have become famed for their original style and individual approach to all things music, and are here to excite with their live shows and raw energy. Made up of Nicko Varey on vocals and guitar, JD on bass and Anders Christian on drums, the band looks to bring back vintage high octane performances with the modern edge rock sound

Rapidly becoming one of the most sort after live bands on the London rock scene after TimeOut Magazine branded them "fuzzed up garage rocking headliners", they have gone on to head and host nights at popular venues such as The Luminaire and 93 Feet East and feature in University live shows and radio stations. They are becoming recognised as one of the up and coming bands to watch.

The Barney Variations

‘The Barney Variations’ hail from the bustling village of Wing and have been formed exclusively for Docfest10  (following a few wines and gentle persuasion by Sandra at a dinner party in March).   The ‘group’ consists of Sally and Steve Barnes, plus Dave and Angie Varey; who together, will be singing a few ‘folky’ type songs and playing one or two lively tunes on a variety of acoustic instruments – guitar(s), mandolin, accordion – and bass guitar.

Don’t worry, no heavy, finger-in-the-ear stuff, but light, musical entertainment for you to relax to and enjoy (hopefully) before the professionals come on.  PS We definitely don’t have a website.

Please RSVP to Sandra Doherty 01296 720609 • doherty33@btinternet.com by 14 June please.
