Welcome to our JustGiving Page

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to Diabetes UK and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - we raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

We have gathered a team of friends and family who will be doing the Great South Run (10 miles long) on Sunday 24 October 2010 for Diabetes UK.

The chances are that you will know someone who has been affected by Diabetes; be it Type 1, Type 2 or Gestational Diabetes.

2.6 million people in the UK live with Diabetes, 15% being Type 1 (Insulin dependent) and 85% being Type 2.  There are an estimated 500,000 people in the UK who have Type 2 Diabetes and are not yet aware of it.

We want to help Diabetes UK help those people and their families who live with Diabetes.  At present, there is no cure for Diabetes and control is the only option available.  This is great, but we also want to help Diabetes UK work towards a future without Diabetes.

We all have a connection to little Joseph Buckley, pictured top left.  Joe was diagnosed Type 1 Diabetic on 9 October 2009.  Thanks to fast treatment and and ongoing support from the Diabetes Team at Worthing Hospital, Joe is enjoying life like any two year old would.  The difference being is that he has to have his blood glucose level checked at least 8 times a day and depends on a insulin pump, which is attached to his body 24/7, 365 days a year.  Managing his diabetes is something he will have to learn to do on his own one day, as Type 1 is a lifelong condition.  Diabetes UK help support the Buckley family by keeping them updated with the latest Diabetes news and organising events such as family weekends away.

There is no cure for Diabetes, only control, which is great - but it is not good enough.  One person is diagnosed in the UK every three minutes and three people die from its complications every hour.  Please give what you can.

Love Team Joe x
