Story
Hi all,
It's been a while since I updated this page, but I am pleased and proud to report that at about 8.30am on Thursday 24th September I successfully reached the summit of Kilimanjaro (Uhuru peak), and then mid-afternoon on the 25th made it back down again.
This was far and away the hardest thing I have ever done, but the memory of why I was there, as well as the support I received from everyone before, during and after the challenge made it that much more achieveable.
I would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who has been generous enough to sponsor me or donate money to Cancer Research UK for research into pancreatic cancer, the condition from which dad sadly died in November 2007. And if anyone has not yet got round to sponsoring me you still have time.
Thank you again for your amazing support and generosity,
Duncan
BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
My dad was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in October 2007, after he had started to experience stomach pains in the summer. He was initially given a prognosis of 6 months to live, but sadly he died on the 11th November 2007 at the age of 64.
Pancreatic cancer is not the most common form of cancer, but approximately 7,600 people are diagnosed every year, and the prognosis is generally very poor. With your help, I would like to raise as much money as possible to fund additional research into this area and hopefully improve that prognosis for other people who are diagnosed.
Please note, I am self-funding this trek, so every penny you donate will go straight to the charity.
Thank you, and please give generously.
Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Cancer Research UK gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.
