Story
A few colleagues from the Financial Stability area of the Bank of England are running the British 10k on 12 July 2009, in aid of the Whitechapel Mission.
In 1876 the forerunner of the Whitechapel Mission was inaugurated as `The Working Lads' Institute at a Public Meeting in the Mansion House. Ever since then it has continued to be a lifeline for many poor and homeless people in the East End of London. The Mission takes care of all people coming through its doors, by providing hot food and drink, showers, clothing, free toilets and the chance of a wash and brush-up. Its goal is to empower people that are excluded and it starts this process by creating an environment built on trust, belonging and understanding.
