Bupa Great South Run 2009 · 25 October 2009 ·

Victim Support is an independent charity. We are dedicated to supporting people affected by crime and traumatic incidents in England and Wales and we put them at the heart of our organisation. We provide specialist help and services to support people to cope and recover.

Story

On 25th October I'll be taking part in the Great South Run in Portsmouth in aid of Victim Support.

Victim Support is the national charity for victims and witnesses of crime in England and Wales.

Victim Support gives free and confidential help to victims of crime, their family, friends and anyone else affected. The organisation gives information, emotional support and practical help. People don’t have to report a crime to the police to get help from Victim Support and can get support at any time, whenever the crime happened.

Victim Support is not a government agency or part of the police and has offices right across England and Wales running and co-ordinating local services. Victim Support also runs the Witness Service in every criminal court to help people called as witnesses.

Victim Support contacts over 1.5 million people after a crime to offer help and also works to campaign for greater rights for victims and witnesses and to raise awareness. Just like any other charity, Victim Support needs to raise funds to support its work with victims and witnesses.

I've worked as a Victim Care Officer for Victim Support Sussex & Surrey (0845 3899 528) since May 2008 and have seen first hand how the service can really help people to cope with the effects of crime. So please, please dig deep and sponsor me. I'm not promising to run very fast but am determined to complete the 10 mile course and believe me, I will find it challenging!

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for Victim Support.

Thank you!
