In 2004 Essex Roads Cycle Club teamed up with the Royal British Legion to form the Poppy Ride. This is a 100-mile charity bicycle ride around Essex on Remembrance Sunday. All funds raised go direct to the Legion who support the victims of war. The 2007 Poppy Ride is on the 11th November, starting at the war memorial in Billericay High Street, where we lay a wreath and say prayers before setting off on our epic ride.
Last year we raised £214 for the Legion and hope to beat that this year.

Post-Ride Update
A total of 24 riders set off from the War Memorial in Billericay High Street at 07:15 on a dry but windy Sunday morning. With the wind at our backs we made good progress for the first 40 miles. After a brief stop at Finchingfield to refuel we set off into the wind, heading ever northwards towards Saffron Walden at which point we turned south towards Stansted and began the final third. The hills and the wind took their toll and two of our number had to drop out from injury, with 22 of the 24 making it back to Billericay High Street for 14:30. The total time riding was 5 hours 44 minutes, making an average speed of 17.5 mph.
Thanks to all who have sponsored us - we surpassed our hopes for fundraising and it is greatly appreciated by us and the Royal British Legion.
