Hello and welcome to my JustGiving page!
This July I will be going to Bolivia for a 10 week volunteering placement with Tearfund as part of International Citizenship Service (ICS).
I'm going to be working with a project called Oeser, based in Cochabamba. The project is based around a school and a nursery. Oeser provides grants to local children, who would otherwise not be able to go to school. My role is to help however is needed but this could involve teaching classes, administrative work or maintaining community buildings.
ICS is a government-funded volunteering scheme for people aged 18 - 25, which works with local communities on existing projects for long-term change. It also equips young people to be more community active citizens when they return to the UK.
To go on the placement, I need to raise a minimum of £800. This does not cover my personal placement (no flights, visas etc!) as it is funded by the Department for International Development (DFID). The money goes back to ICS to allow other young people to participate and to Tearfund to fund the work I'll be doing. So thanks to someone going on placement before me, I can now take part, and so on! (Great right?)
I've had a great time fundraising and I'm now really close to my target! So far I've spent 5 days living on £1 a day for all my food and drink and played an acoustic gig at my work! (You can read more about both of these on my blog: www.floinbolivia.wordpress.com)
