The rains in northern Ghana this month have been unprecedented and have proved devastating for many families. Lives have been lost, compound homes literally disintegrated, harvests destroyed and the business stock of many of the women we have given micro-finance loans to washed away. The area has been officially labelled a disaster zone by President Kufuor. The photo to the left shows one of the ‘AfriKids’ Daughters’ in the remains of her compound home. 

AfriKids has already begun giving some emergency relief but much more will be needed in the months to come. Food aid will be given to make up for crops that have been lost and as payment for community reconstruction work on compound homes. We are also raising funds in readiness to work with the Ghana Health Service to offer cholera treatment as it has been predicted that an outbreak is imminent.

As always, we are so appreciative of all of you who continually support AfriKids and we would only ever ask for further support from you if it was crucial to the lives of the communities we work with. These circumstances are indeed crucial and any support that you can offer will be hugely appreciated. After the floods in the UK, we are all too familiar with the hardship that they create.
