Story
I was shocked to read that, according to the United Nations, there are on average 46000 pieces of plastic litter per every square mile of ocean world-wide, causing the deaths of an estimated 100,000 marine mammals and 1 million seabirds every year. I felt I must try to do something! I have therefore set myself the challenge to 'save' one square mile of ocean by collecting (& re-cycling) 46000 pieces of litter whilst walking on my local beaches - as part of the MCS's Coastal Challenge campaign. I am making art from the litter too in order to raise awareness of the issues. I think it will take me at least 50 walks to achieve my 46000 target but it's for a very good cause.
