Story

Lee Rowley and Martin Shields, Firefighters at Birmingham International Airport will attempt to reach the summit of the Worlds highest free standing mountain and the highest mountain peak on the African continent, Kilimanjaro.

Situated on the Kenyan border of Tanzania, Kilimanjaro's highest point, the Uhuru peak stands at 5895m (almost 20,000ft) and lies some 60km from the base.

Due to the mountain's equatorial location as well as its high elevation, climbers can experience almost every climate type on earth during the journey to the top. It is also known to many for its year round snow-topped summit.

Temperatures can reach in excess of 30'C at the base and drop to as low as -30'C at the summit.
