Fundraising for Breast Cancer Now
Story
On 1 June, we (just the two of us) embark on our cycling adventure across America which most would call crazy.
We will be flying into New York, catching a train to Niagara falls and then making our way to Seattle by bicycle..
This 5800km long challenge with a mere 35000m elevation is set to take us 40 days which means an easy 145kms a day. The intention is to camp all 40 days, although we are sure that the chance of ending up in a motel for at least one night is relatively high!!
Most wouldn't call this a holiday, let alone take unpaid leave and pay for it!
For us, it is only because of the extremity of the challenge, that it is the adventure of a lifetime.
In the months of planning, many have asked whether we would be doing it for a charity. We've decided to raise money for a charity which is really close to our hearts especially with Tarryn having lost her mom to cancer 12 years ago. The charity is Breast Cancer Now.
For added awareness, Tarryn will be cycling with a pink bicycle.
Breast cancer is the most common cancer in the UK. 1 in 8 women in the UK will face breast cancer in their lifetime; and every 45 minutes, another woman dies from the disease. Thanks to research, more people are surviving breast cancer than ever before. More than 80% of women with breast cancer are still alive five years after diagnosis. Breast Cancer Now is the UK’s largest breast cancer research charity who are dedicated to funding research into this devastating disease.
Whilst it is unlikely to eradicate breast cancer completely, they can find ways to prevent it, detect it and treat it so effectively that no one dies from it again. But it’s only by us standing together that they can
make it happen.
