London Marathon 2017 · 23 April 2017 ·

Thames Valley Air Ambulance is the only provider of advanced critical care within Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire. Every day, someone in our community could be in urgent need of our service.

Story

I am running my second marathon on the 23rd April 2017 in the Championship race. Last year, I ran 2.45 on my debut. This time round, I hope to run quicker!

I take my running pretty seriously and run 80-100 miles a week. For those who know me well, they know I have a terrible addiction to diet coke, which is a no, no for an aspiring athlete. In my preparation for the marathon, I am going to give up my number one love, "the DC" for lent (this is likely to be more of a challenge than the marathon!)

I have decided to run this year for the Thames Valley Air Ambulance, which is an amazing local charity. I was first involved with TVAA when I raised money for them at primary school by selling helicopter pencil sharpeners. I got to visit the air ambulance and had my picture in the local newspaper. It's a memory I have never forgotten. Since then, I have always donated to them and entered their lottery (which last year I won!).

TVAA receives no government or lottery funding. With each flight costing £2,500 its a life saving service that relies entirely on the generosity of the public, its volunteers and fundraisers. Its truly a fantastic cause and raising money for them is inspiring me to run faster!
