Cycle Vietnam to Cambodia 2022 · 16 November 2022

We’re the UK’s leading charity for Crohn’s and Colitis. Right now, over 500,000 people in the UK are living with a lifelong disease that many people have never heard of. We’re working to improve diagnosis and treatment; to fund research and to raise awareness.

My son was diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis during his 2nd year at uni and this has had a massive impact on his life. At the time he was so unwell, having regular flare ups and he lost so much weight. I found it really distressing to see him in so much pain. I had always looked after him and kept him healthy, but this time his health was out of my control

Ulcerative Colitis and Crohn’s are chronic, ongoing and lifelong conditions, affecting over 300,000 people in the UK. These diseases are also called IBD, Inflammatory Bowel Diseases, not to be confused with IBS

Ulcerative Colitis is thought to be an autoimmune condition, possibly caused by environmental factors or genetics, a condition that causes inflammation and ulcers on the lining of the colon (large intestine) and large bowel

My son is managing his condition with medication and regular checkups with his hospital consultant. He is currently in remission

My uncle was a Crohn’s sufferer and had periods where his symptoms were quite active and severe, until eventually he had to undergo surgery. I’m unsure when his symptoms first developed but I can remember him being healthy when he came out of the army but then he became quite poorly

The severity of the symptoms of both Crohn’s and Ulcerative Colitis do vary and for some people the conditions have a significant impact on their everyday lives
