Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
Our family set up Bella's fund in conjunction with Addenbrooke's Charitable Trust (ACT) and the paediatric gastroenterology team at Addenbrooke's in August 2015, following our daughter diagnosis in August 2014 with Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD).
At the age of 10 Isabella (Bella) was diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis and Primary Sclerosis Cholangitis (PSC), a rare progressive liver condition. There is a close association between PSC and IBD.
Due to the severity of Bella's disease, 10 weeks after diagnosis she had to have a sub-total colectomy. This is an operation to remove the colon, also known as the large intestine. As a result Bella now has a stoma and wears a colostomy bag.
IBD is on the increase in children and no one fully understand why. The impact on children is greater than in adults, as it affects the child ability to grow. Currently there is no cure for this terrible disease.
We have committed to raise £60,000 over three years for the dedicated paediatric gastroenterology research team at Addenbrooke's.
We intend to do our part to help find out the causes of IBD so it can be treated more effectively especially for children.
