I am proud to be taking part in Manchester's first ever CEO Sleepout on Monday 16th May 2016, along with other senior business and community leaders. We have each signed up to sleep out on the pitch at Emirates Old Trafford to help raise funds for and awareness of homeless projects across the Diocese of Manchester. 

Homelessness is a major issue facing our region and the church is quickly becoming a leader in developing a compassionate and practical response to this crisis. I hope that by taking part in this event I can encourage business leaders in our city to take an active role in tackling the problems on the doorstep. 

On a personal level,  the issue of housing and homelessness is one that I have been concerned with all my life. I have been actively involved in supporting charities and projects that work with the homeless since I was a student, and more recently I have chaired the board of Housing Justice (who are now actively supporting our very own Greater Manchester Winter Night Shelter scheme), and I am a patron of the Church Housing Trust. I am also actively involved in the city-wide campaign to develop a Homelessness Charter and to better tailor help and support for the most vulnerable people in our communities. 

The money raised by participating in the CEO Sleepout will be used by Church Urban Fund to support projects in some of the poorest parts of Greater Manchester. They involve local people from local churches and communities tackling poverty together with local solutions. CUF is also a partner in our most recent anti-poverty venture, Greater Together Manchester, which aims to support and resource projects happening across the diocese as well as providing a better infrastructure to allow a more coordinated response to poverty in our region.
