Debs and Liams River Wye Kayaking Challenge July 2022

DebbieC LiamL is raising money for Great Ormond Street Hospital Children's Charity

Wye River Kayaking Challenge · 21 February 2022

We are Great Ormond Street Hospital Charity. We stop at nothing to help give seriously ill children childhoods that are fuller, funner and longer. Because we believe no childhood should be lost to illness.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I’m Debbie C and this is my choice of charity for the kayak challenge.

Myself and my kayaking buddy Liam L are going on 3rd July 2022 for approximately 10 days kayaking and camping along the river Wye. We will be starting around the area of Rhayader in Wales.

I kayaked as a teenager and then went back to it in recent years. I decided that as I am 50 in June 2022, that I wanted to challenge myself and raise money for my favourite charity. So after talking to my kayak buddy we came up with several ideas of places we wanted to kayak and decided on the river Wye as we have had the most experience on rivers and already have the majority of equipment for that. The rest of our ideas we hope to do for future events to continue with fundraising for charity. I believe that if you put your mind to it, no matter your age or physical fitness levels (to some extent naturally lol) that anything is possible.

For very personal reasons involving the life saving surgery Great Ormond Street performed in my daughter as a baby, this charity will always be top of my list!!!…..

GOSH and all the staff and professionals that work there and for the hospital are responsible for saving so many childrens lives, improving their quality of life and supporting the parents and families of the children that are the patients there.

My daughter was a patient there over 25 years ago and remained an outpatient till she was 19 years old….. The care and support they provided whilst she was an in patient and then as an outpatient was excellent.

No one wants their child to be sick or disabled but sadly it’s happens to some families for one of many thousands of different reasons. GOSH with their specialist care will do their utmost to diagnose, treat and cure or improve the quality of life of their young patients .

It’s a worthy charity that yes, gets a lot of funding…… However it is always in need of money to help with things from research and equipment to the buildings that is the hospital itself and much much more……. It’s constantly in need of support to help the many thousands of young people it helps each year…… so please, help me to raise the funds for this very worthy charity.
