Hi everyone who's reading my page - My name is Andy and I'm taking part in the Great North Run on the 10th September to try and raise vital funds for Rotherham Hospital Special Care Baby Unit. For those of you that don't know me, my daughter Evie was born 5 1/2 weeks early weighing only 3lb 12.5oz and was admitted straight to their care.
This was a scary time for my wife and I as we was only given a few hours notice that our daughter would be arriving that day by emergency caesarean section and we didn't know what to expect, other than that Evie would need to go straight to their care  - however the nurses and doctors on the unit explained everything to me (as my wife had to have a general anaesthetic), and they took great care of Evie.
Evie was only on special care for 8 days before being allowed home as she did so well and we know this was only a short period of time compared to some babies, but we are so thankful for everything the staff did, that we wanted to try and repay them somehow and after speaking to a member of staff at the hospital recently, we have been told that the special care baby unit currently need funds for aponea monitors which can be sent home as part of a safe discharge for babies who are known to have had severe apnoea or those who are at risk of future apnoea episodes. Any money raised will go towards purchasing these pieces of equipment as they cost £900 each.
I really appreciate any donations, whether they be little or big as I know these would benefit a lot of families.
