Story
In October 2022 I will be taking part in the London Marathon to raise money for Southampton Hospitals.
On the eve of the London Olympics 2012 my daughter Millie was born. She was extremely poorly after being starved of oxygen at birth due to a placental abruption. She underwent a number of interventions in neonatal intensive care from cooling-induced coma to major abdominal surgery.
The moments leading to the crash-caesarian and the days following it were the most fearful time of my and my wife Anna’s lives.
Millie received fantastic treatment and to our amazement and joy our little girl made a full recovery and the only sign of her traumatic start in life is a scar across her tummy. Southampton Hospital not only cared for Millie, but also Anna and me - for example they provided a room for us to stay in so we could be close to Millie. But they needed funds to develop some of the care we received, such as the accommodation to help parents be near their babies. We said at the time that we should help Southampton Hospital to do more of the same by doing something special and London Marathon provides the right event to raise some money to help the special care develop!
We are lucky to be able to celebrate Millie and I want to do so by raising money that will be used to help families who are going through what we went through, and worse.
