Story

Hello,

My name is Emily Forster and I am the Activities Co-ordinator for the Mary Seacole Nursing Home. I have set up this page to fundraise for our 'Wheelchair walk for a cause' that will be taking place on Sunday October 15th, 2017. We plan to walk 10 residents along the canal, starting at Haggerston Bridge at 10am, up to Victoria Park where we will have a celebratory picnic, and then back.

Our goal is to raise £1,200 to put towards environmental improvements within the home and to contribute to resident's activities which positively impact quality of life and emotional wellbeing. All changes are being made in order to become more 'dementia friendly' and contribute to MSNH feeling like a true home for those who live here.

One of the main areas of focus is our garden courtyard. This area is currently enjoyed by residents for relaxation, and during a variety of home activities, but is fairly bleak in appearance. Landscaping plans have been drawn up to improve this space and include a sensory area (incorporating specific planting eg. sage, thyme, lavender, etc.), a wheelchair accessible potting shed, raised bedding areas so that residents in wheelchairs can directly engage with gardening, bird feeders, planting to attract bees and insects and brightly coloured garden furniture to offer maximum seating opportunities.

In order to set these plans in motion, funding is crucial. We know that providing a beautiful outside space will have endless physical and emotional benefits for our residents now, and for years to come. We would greatly appreciate any donation that you would be able to offer in order to help reach our goal. All family and friends are more than welcome to join us on the day and we hope to see you there!

Thank you,

Emily
