Story
George's cousin, Josh, was diagnosed with synovial sarcoma last Autumn. He has undergone chemotherapy and has just started radiotherapy with the aim that surgery will follow in a few months.
Inspired by Josh's positivity, and his younger sister donating her plaits to the Little Princess Trust, George came up with idea that he could make Josh feel better by matching his hair-do (and his mum suggested he might be able to raise a few pounds along the way).
What makes this fundraiser so special?
Firstly, Harrison has been a great friend to George - supporting him when he was worried about his cousin - and amazingly he volunteered to join in the hair shaving!
Secondly, George and Harrison, aged 14 and 13, both have their own health issues. George has Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, a progressive muscle wasting condition and Harrison has cerebral palsy. Both boys are full-time wheelchair users and have ongoing medical complications. Their participation in this fundraiser is an example of how they live their lives; grab any opportunity and jump right in!
Josh has been supported by the Teenage Cancer Trust Hub at his London hospital. The Hub is an actual space where patients, aged 13 to 24 years old, get to spend time with people of their same age, with their families and friends, and they can meet up with their clinical team in comfortable surroundings. The Hub includes a gym, DJ booth, gaming space, education zone and café.
The TCT has built 28 special units across the UK. They also advocate for teenage cancer needs.
Thank you for reading our story. Anything you can donate will make a difference to young people facing cancer.
Josh's family would also be grateful if you could take a moment to consider becoming a blood donor. It is common to need a blood transfusion as chemotherapy can destroy the good cells as well as the nasty ones.
