Story

Last year, I took part in the Swim 22 Challenge for Diabetes UK, swimming a combined distance of 22 miles - the equivalent length of the English Channel - over the period of a little over a month.  It was a really fun and worthwhile activity to take part in, and people were really supportive in helping me get behind the good cause.  I wanted to do something bigger and more challenging this year, so I made the decision to take to the open water and attempt the Great Scottish Swim this August!

This swim will be 2 miles, which might be less than the 22 I logged last year, but this time I have to swim it all in one go. Plus, the unfamiliarity of swimming in the cold outdoors will up the difficulty level even more.  If anything, I made have bitten off more than I can chew by diving right into the 2-mile course on my first open water swimming experience... but I've already started training in hopes of getting ready.

I made the decision to take part in a new swimming challenge pretty much immediately after finishing the one last year, but in the time since my grandfather, Robert Lees, died of cancer.  He had been in ill health for some time, but I've always been close to my grandparents, so he was a big part of my life.  So, it feels right that Great Scottish Swim is set up to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support.  I've decided to dedicate my fundraising efforts to the memory of my Granda.

I plan on trying to keep this page updated with stuff as I continue my journey towards Loch Lomond in August.  So, I'll try sharing some blogs about my training efforts, and maybe some pics of my wetsuit once I've lost enough weight to fit into it!  Any support you can give would be greatly appreciated, be it by donating or just spreading the word.  I also believe it's not too late to take part yourself.  If you want to sign up for the Great Scottish Swim, let me know and I'll share your page too, maybe we can get a swim team on the go!  It should be a fun event, and it's all going towards a worthwhile cause.
