Story

On 4th December 2013 my family and i were told that Lucy had only days to weeks to live, Lucy had been in Great Ormand Street Hospital since 18th October 2013 she was admitted to Badger Ward for management of increased oxygen requirement and worsening joint pain had been lethargic at home and had respiratory distress.

She was treated with various drugs, but remained on a high oxygen requirement and had to be started on optiflow to deliver humidified high flow oxygen, one drug helped the joint pains but didnt not improve the oxygen requirement and she was needed 90-100% oxygen.

Unfortunately she had an acute deteriration on the 1st December with increased temperature and failure to keep saturations above 90% she was admitted to PIC overnight.

A decision was made with the respiratory, intensive care and pallitive care teams that Lucy is not for intubation, ventilation in the event of a further deterioration, she will continue on optiflow as before and she is not for resuscitation in the event of cardiorespiratory arrest and she is not for consideration of lung transplant.

On the 3rd December l decided Lucy would feel most comfortable in Demelza Childrens Hospice as they know Lucy and my family well, Lucy was then detoriating fair quickly and was then in a terminal phase of her illness.

They gave me 4 months of beautiful memories with my daughter who passed away in her sleep she was our pink princess she brought so much happiness and laughter to my family and all who worked there and she touched the hearts of everyone and i would like to thank the care team and the family support cause without them i dont know where i would of been today and i want to give another family the chance to have what we had.

I just want to tell you a little about Lucy was a small girl with a big heart and a big personality, she was beautiful, funny, cheeky and a very loving girl and everyone who met her fell in love with her straight away, i feel truely blessed that i got to spend the last few months with Lucy and my family in demelza and i will miss our time together so much. Lucy was the brightest ray of sunshine and was loved by everyone, she was full of fun and cheekiness and she kept me on my toes, i loved her giggles and never ending sense of fun but most of all her enthusiam for her doing her best at everything, Lucy loved to be the dancing queen and now my Lucy is a special angel in heaven.

Great Ormand Street looked after Lucy from the age of 9 months old till the age of 6 she spent most of her life in and out of Great Ormand Street Hospital and Lucy's consultant wasnt like a doctor to us he was like a friend he was very fond of Lucy and he told us he has very fond memories of her and she was unique and that she will be sadly missed by everyone in Badger Ward and all the staff there that looked after her so i want to do this fund raiser to raise money to help other sick children like lucy and keep this going in her memory.

As a parent of a child who fought a long battle against a terminal disease, I know the value of help from people in the same situation. After my youngest daughter died , I decided it was time to help others as a way of moving on. Lucy, died from an incurable lung condition at just six years old. This year I am raising money in aid of Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH), where my daughter was treated. I want to give something back. Lucy was only nine months old when the doctors knew something was wrong. She had a condition called Interstitial Lung Disease. The name is an umbrella term covering more than 200 different types of ILD and the doctors were not sure which one Lucy had. Scar tissue built up in her lungs, which made the wall of her lungs thicker and less able to take in oxygen as they lost their elasticity. From then on, Lucy was in and out of GOSH before being admitted to their Badger Ward in October 2013, at the age of five. Her lungs were weak and she needed increased levels of oxygen through a nasal cannula. I am now raising money to donate to the ward for medical equipment such as the oxygen machine Lucy used. I don’t know where I would be today without Great Ormond Street Hospital. Lucy’s consultant was like a friend; he was always there for us when we had concerns or questions. I’ve decided to give the money to the Badger Ward, because I want to help other children in the same situation as Lucy. I am grateful for the help and support she received at GOSH in the years leading up to Lucy’s death. I want to be successful at this year’s fundraising which is to be Easter themed. on 9th April at St George's Church Hall Beckenham. It is a difficult time of the year, so I like to keep myself occupied, to get my mind off everything. All I want is to help other children who are in the same situation as Lucy was and to make my daughter proud. I am looking for prizes for my raffle if you could help I would be most grateful.
