Story

Heart Disease is the leading cause of death both in the UK and worldwide. The
Freeman Hospital’s Cardiothoracic Centre is internationally renowned and is a
centre of excellence for Heart care in the UK. Many people get transferred to
that Hospital from all over the UK in order to get treatment which is
unavailable in their own area.

Our lovely dad, brother & son Simon died on 27th June this year, having had two heart attacks, a massive cardiac arrest [and, if he had been in any other hospital he would have died at that point, without the facilities available at the Freeman]. After his cardiac arrest he was put on the ECMO life support system and kidney dialysis machine – this gave Professor Stephan Schueler and Neil Wrightson a chance to fit a VAD pump to his heart, giving us all hope that he could have a few more years with us – his operation was successful and Simon was told by Neil that, all being well, he could be home in four weeks. Unfortunately three days after that conversation Simon had a massive stroke from which he could not recover - Simon died with all of his family by his side telling him how much he is loved and recounting funny stories from the past.  The Freeman Hospital and the excellent Doctors and nurses on the Intensive Care Unit on Ward 21 never gave up on Simon – we are truly grateful at the exceptional care he received throughout the six weeks he was there.

We would like to raise as much money as possible for the VAD Patient Fund and the Heart and Lung Transplant Association - with that aim in mind, The Food Doctors, who do a little bit of everything from the ‘60s to the present day are playing a charity gig at Caythorpe Village Hall on Saturday, 15th October 2016 – it will be a great night out, bring your own drink and nibbles and dance the night away.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read this, I do hope you will come and help make this night a fantastic success.
